Le Salon Vert is delighted to present the latest creations by the Geneva-based Swiss artist, Xavier Cardinaux.

Colour is the guiding principle in Xavier Cardinaux’s artistic journey, who works almost immersively in oil painting, his medium of choice. He plays with the daubs of colour deposited on a long, narrow table that serves as his palette. This table is already a work of art in itself – a “work in progress” of sorts, a veritable creative wellspring from which he draws his creations through a cathartic physicality. “Painting is my garden,” he likes to say. 

Indeed, colour is the driving force behind his creations, acting as a liberating and inspiring tool. Each painting is built up gradually, through a succession of revisions, additions, overlays, and erasures, notably using a medium based on turpentine and dammar gum – a resin obtained from the Indonesian shorea tree – that allows him to modify one or another colour, to enhance it with a particular brilliance and subtly nuance its tones.
