Kazuki Nakahara was born in Japan in 1980. Already as a child he began to study calligraphy, the art of tracing curved lines on paper, with his father and grandfather, both traditional calligraphers. Following upon his Art History studies at the University of Vienna, he went on to study drawing with the artist Hanns Schimansky at Berlin’s Weissensee School of Art and eventually became Schimansky’s master student. He has spent time at several artist residencies, including ones in Italy, England and France. He has won several drawing and calligraphy prizes (including first prize of “Printing as an event” in Leipzig). He currently lives and works between London and Berlin.
